Possumhaw trail is a short half mile trail that is part of the Cedar Ridge Preserve. It is a great intro trail to walking in nature
What makes this trail special is that it comes with a guide (see downloads- print on both sides and fold in 3rds). This is a great educational opportunity for the kiddos. One of my favorite stations is the #9 THE ESCARPMENT –
AUSTIN CHALK…. Here you really get a feel for how fast habitat can change as you descend from the Escarpment to the creek below. Half way down ask the kids to look both ways and see how vegetation changes in this quick transition.
Cedar Ridge Preserve maintained my Audubon Dallas and volunteers. It is a wonderful preserve and recently there is plenty of evidence that it may be loved more than it is supported. Maintaining trails that get this kind of traffic requires resources of money and time. Please donate in the donation bin in front of the building to help keep resources like this available to all people in our community.
