  • The Cattail Pond Trail makes up the backbone of the trail system that Cedar Ridge Preserve in that it provides access to many of the preserves most remote trails.

The most popular destination on this trail, and perhaps the whole preserve, is the lookout tower 2/3rds of the way through the trail. This tower is located high on the Escarpment and has views of Joe Pool Lake and Grand Prairie.
After the lookout the trail proceeds down the escarpment with many switchbacks to make it less strenuous (though it is still steep). It then passes a seasonal creek and a meadow to arrive at cattail pond.

From the pond you can continue to the much more strenuous Fossil Valley Trail (which loops around and reconnects with the Cattail Pond Trail), you can return the way you came, or you can return via the Escarpment Trail.

Cedar Ridge Preserve is maintained my Audubon Dallas and volunteers. It is a wonderful preserve and recently there is plenty of evidence that it may be loved more than it is supported. Maintaining trails that get this kind of traffic requires resources of money and time. Please donate in the donation bin in front of the building to help keep resources like this available to all people in our community.
